5000 Puppets

Biography

A native of the small college town of Athens, Georgia, 5000 Puppets founder Meghann Jordan packed up and moved to San Francisco, California in late 2009 in search of a more expansive creative environment to learn and connect with people involved in puppetry.

Through a few workshops with Michael Earl and connections with people in the biz, Jesse Vail and the kind folks at Swazzle (Los Angeles), she has learned many of the key components of puppet crafting. Meghann also finds much of her inspiration through the work of Jim Henson.

An opportunity in May of 2011 with Louisville, Kentucky teacher Russ Hockenbury led to a great customer relationship and experience in creating puppets for educational purposes with his program, The Good Computer Kids Podcast.

In addition to commission work, she is currently focusing on a nutrition project intended to teach kids about the importance of good nutrition. She has created a set of nutrition puppets, each with their own song, to star in music videos representing the five food groups.

In the spring of 2014, Meghann connected with the crew at PuppetPlex and in the fall, teamed up to build puppets for their Oregon GMO Right to Know Tour. She recently moved across the bay to Oakland in order to be closer to these like-minded individuals and to follow her dream of creating puppets with a purpose. Having joined this group, she is thrilled for what will come of the future collaborations.
